Domaine de la Murta is first and foremost a family estate, rooted in Figari, in southern Corsica, between the sea and the mountains. It was here, in the heart of a landscape of scrubland, dry stone and sea breezes, that the story began in 1890, with the planting of the first vines for family use. At that time, vines were planted alongside olive trees, vegetable gardens and food crops, in a spirit of self-sufficiency and respect for the natural cycle.
It wasn't until 1963 that the estate took on a more structured dimension: Joseph Cantara, grandfather of the current winemaker, decided to develop the estate, laying the foundations for what would become Domaine de la Murta. His love of the land, his know-how and his attachment to Corsica left a deep imprint on the estate's identity.
In 2002, a new generation took up the torch and gave a decisive boost: the vines were replanted, and the switch to organic farming became a matter of course. By 2026, the estate will have grown to 12 hectares, on a clay-granitic terroir swept by the winds of the Gulf of Figari, ideal for producing wines of character. Vermentinu, Sciaccarellu, Niellucciu and Carcaghjolu Neru: the Corsican grape varieties express their full character here, while respecting the living environment and the traditions of the island.
