Inside, the library is the central element of this new building, which has a defined shelving capacity of 20,000 books, including a collection specifically dedicated to Corsica, as well as general works (arts, literature, human and social sciences, life and earth sciences, etc.) and mass-market titles, including new releases, with an emphasis on children's literature (audio books, comic strips, etc.). Part of this collection will also be devoted to large-print editions.
Based on the partnership work initiated by the municipality with all the institutional, associative and economic players, new initiatives will be launched: the Micro Folie scheme, conference-debates, literary and citizens' cafés, writing workshops, video games, a games library for children, artistic creations, artists' meetings and cinema screenings.
At the Portivechju multimedia library, you can take part in creative activities, use computers, join a video club, read and find out more, discover a virtual museum...!
Finally, the town is particularly keen to offer activities centred on the Mediterranean world. The Portivechju multimedia library, located between the citadel, the navy and the salini, will be part of a heritage trail that will use documents, exhibitions, meetings and events to showcase our heritage and our language to the people of Portivechju and, more broadly, to all Corsicans and tourists. The Cultural Action, together with the residents and all the cultural players in the commune and beyond, will bring the media library to life as a third place, conducive to the construction of "un cumunu".
